Kay Wang

Where did you grow up?
Flushing, Queens, NY and Seattle, Washington.
What brought you (back) to New York?
An overwhelming sense that I never should have left in the first place.
What do you do for a living?
I design and fabricate my own jewelry line, The Things We Keep.
How did you get started?
I took a silversmithing class when I lived in CA and loved it, then moved here and took a couple more classes, then when I got laid off when my full time gig in NYC ended, I took it as a sign and just hit the ground running.
What are your favorite things about your neighborhood? 
I’m in a weird geographical divide between a very traditional Brooklyn neighborhood with working class families and a lot of younger new money families, so our hood literally changes every month. That said, I love the mix of old and new on our doorstep and there’s lots of places to go/things to do nearby without it ever feeling congested, unlike a few of the more populated neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
What’s the last treasure you found?
We’re fostering a chow/collie pup (on day three so far) and she’s quite the treasure! ; )
If you were going to eat your last meal in New York, where and what would you eat?
Can I pick two entrees? Shanghai Cafe for XLB and Paulie Gee’s for their Hellboy pizza with extra Mike’s Hot Honey, capped with the always-and-forever-warm brownie sundae from The Chocolate Room. Yeah, weird mix.
If you could have a sleepover with anyone who has ever existed, who would it be?
Bill Nye The Science Guy. We’d have so much to talk about!
If your life was a TV show, what would be the theme song?
What does New York need that it doesn’t have now?
